Convener (JACPU) Prof. Dr. Kamran Abid expressed his reservations to the media men and said that before resuming charge as VC, the university had about 4.88 billion in reserve accounts, which have been consumed without prior permission of the Finance & Planning Committee. The Vice-Chancellor didn’t even explain the purpose or expenditure details of said amount, adversely affecting the financial status of the university. The current fiscal deficit for the year 2025-26 is 2.57 billion, as explained in the budget, was just a number game, while the actual financial shortfall was about Rs. 8 billion, which was kept hidden intentionally. Chairman Joint Action Committee (JACPU) Prof. Dr Asghar Iqbal said that the University is on the utmost financial decline, not because of the anemic policies of the VC. The existing autonomous bodies, rules, and regulations have been neglected through promoting supremacy of the current Vice-Chancellor. The university is surviving under the worst situation ever before, while the teaching faculty, including administrative staff and students, crucially perturb. A long list of administrative negligence is a question mark over the competence of the Vice-Chancellor.
While answering the questions of the newsmen, President, Ch. Basharat said that there are numerous remonstrances which have been explained time to time to the concerned authorities, including the Treasurer, Registrar and even VC, but all failed to make a suitable solution to the problems except their tall claims. All employees and faculty members are witnesses that not a single development is on the credit of the VC, including his favorite teammates who are actually letting him down. The routine due payments of the administrative staff are still pending, while the inner strength of the employees has been breathing its last. We have tried to convinced through purposing many permissive solutions, but they always refused them. We conveyed our reservations to the legislators using relevant platforms regarding the concerns. Today, once again, it is our humble request to the Vice-Chancellor and his team either to resolve these issues or leave this position for the sake of the University of the Punjab.
