Aiming to maintain the climate relevant crisis, the Punjab government has allocated Rs 15.42 billion for the Environment and Climate Change sector for the fiscal year 2026–27.
As per official budget documents revealed that the allocation will support 34 development projects, including 30 ongoing schemes and four new initiatives introduced by the government. As per details about Rs. 910 million has been allocated for new schemes including Rs.452 million for the deployment of anti-smog guns with electric trucks for air quality management. For the Lahore Air Improvement Framework Rs 200 million strengthening of the Environmental Monitoring, Analysis and Data Management System in EPA laboratories across Punjab, Rs. 58 million for strengthening environmental digital governance in the province.
Rs. 14.51 billion has been allocated particularly for ongoing projects in Punjab. As per details the key projects include Rs 200.5 million for the construction of an Environment Complex in Sargodha, Rs. 198 million for the construction of an Environment Complex in Faisalabad, Rs 1.5 billion for the establishment of a Climate Observatory in Punjab, and Rs. 350 million for the establishment of the Environment Protection Force in 10 zones of Punjab, including Lahore. The allocation reflects the concern of provincial government’s focus on improving air quality management, strengthening environmental monitoring systems, addressing climate-related challenges and enhancing environmental governance across Punjab.
